DAY ONE Sri Lanka

We left school at 11am after saying goodbye to all our friends and family. We headed for the airport and checked in our luggage then spent some leisure time in duty free! It was then time to board the plane and head off to Doha. We all loved the in flight entertainment ranging from Monsters inc University to Star Trek. We were spolit with three meals and various drinks, having a dinner at 4 am in the morning (Sri Lankan time) , and before we knew it we were in Doha ready to board the next plane to Colombo.

The flight to Colombo was without a hitch, and as we came into land we were amazed by the trademark rainforests of Sri Lanka. The moment we landed, we were hit by the heat and humidity of the far eastern country. Our tour guides greeted us with happiness, presenting each of us with a flower garment, lighting up our day. Next, we traveled to a nearby hotel to shower, have breakfast and take a dip in the cool pool. But we could not stop for long, as our next step of our journey involved a strict deadline that would be an experience we would never forget.

Our two hour journey was full of action, witnessing the differences in health and safety between Britain and Sri Lanka. Red lights were green,  seat belts for some ceased to exist and crowds of ecstatic children waving at us. We were lucky enough to watch elephants having their daily bath in the local river, taking pictures of them as they came up close to greet us. Next, after a browse through the sovenier shops, we travelled to the elephant orphanage and then had lunch in a nearby hotel.

Afterwards, we travelled to Kandy to rest, relax and have a lovely buffet dinner. We watched a group of musicians perform a variety of Sri Lankan songs, and then settled down for the night. What will tomorrow bring?

  1. I am sure I am speaking on behalf of all the parents when saying how reassuring and exciting it is to hear your news. The elephant orphanage looks amazing. Looking forward to the next instalment of your Sri Lanka saga.
